Prizes The following stories have won prizes or awards in Short Story Competitions. Any judges comments about the stories are in italics. 1st Place "Monocular Man" - joint winner The Lancet "Fact to Fiction" short story competition 2007. Published in the end-of-year special "SuperEd" - joint winner - Sedbergh Festival of Books and Drama 2007 short story competition. The story was broadcast on BBC Radio Cumbria in August 2007 "Wasn't that wonderful...there was a touch of the Harry Potter about it...wouldn't we all like to fly away on holiday by jumping off a red kitchen bucket..." "Under the Waves" - Bank Street Writers Short Story Competition 2006 (published in Current Accounts Magazine July 2006). "A well written piece of work, poignant, and amusing in parts. Contemporary in its content, yet conveying the streaks of ignoble traits unfortunately found in today's society and family structure." "Killing Me Softly" - Dark Tales Flash Fiction Competition January 2006 (to be published in print at a later date) 2nd Place "Wish You Were Here" - Woman's Own magazine Short Story Competition 2006 (published in Woman's Own July 2006 ) "Burnt-Ochre Heart" - Writer's Dock Short Story Competition March 2006 (unpublished) 3rd Place "My Daughter the Deep Sea Diver" - Writers Bureau short story competition 2008 Highly Commended / Runner Up "Gabby and Bub" Runner up in the WriteSpace "Forbidden Friends" short story competition 2007. Top 13 of 180 entries (unpublished) "C is for Cuckoo" awarded Honorable Mention in the Momaya Press short story competition 2007. Story to be published in an anthology later this year. "Resurrecting Norman" - Highly Commended Jacqui Bennett Writers Bureau Competition January 2007 (unpublished) "Tea With Mother" - Runner Up Mere Literary Festival 2006. (unpublished) "Producing Piglets" - Highly Commended Lymm Festival Short Story Competition 2006 (unpublished) "I found [the] story very engaging, the writing accomplished and the different interpretations of the theme very skillfully layered together.The point of view was very consistent, and I particularly liked the fact that the reader was left to draw his/her own inferences...Sensitive, touching and entertaining...and all this in under 1,000 words!"
